Fashionable herd

Hock high peat socks for the calves

their mama’s have full length dark stockings.

The burn-bed, applied to every leg -

packed on low slung udder, mulch dappled

The sturdy black heifers, take brown hosiery:

like a hockey team running together

The wide-eyed just-arrived, with burnished rump

are rain rinsed parchment above the wading line.
