Meet Peronel

Peronel Barnes was born in London. She is an award winning painter based in Oxford. She has exhibited regularly at the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (RI) in London, collecting the Outstanding Watercolour Award at the RI, in 2011. More recently her work is predominantly in oils, although watercolour remains the first love.

Peronel’s work hangs in private and public collections in UK, USA, Canada, Europe, Australia and South Africa.

Peronel is fascinated by the effect of light on the landscape. She spends time walking in the countryside or by the sea, watching the light and how it changes, moves and alters our surroundings. You can find her hiding out of the wind on remote coastal outcrops grappling with sketchbook and elements, as well couched deep in the grasses of the fields in Oxfordshire.

  • 2016 Bardsey residency  presenting “Edges".

"The artist ..speaks to our capacity for delight and wonder, to the sense of mystery surrounding our lives, to our sense of.. beauty and pain."

Her inspiration is the work of God the creator. It is this which makes her heart sing and gives her the passion to express and communicate a visual response to land, sea and sky. Her aim is for the viewer to bring their own experiences and imagination to a painting. So that each viewing becomes an emotion and a pleasure, which will shift and change just as light shifts and changes.

Peronel offers conversations with aspiring and professional painters.

You are welcome to visit her garden studio by prior arrangement, to experience the working environment of the artist and  to purchase original work.
